adhd impacts women differently than men.

Did you know that adult women are grossly under-diagnosed with ADHD? this can impact their relationships, finances, health, and self-esteem.

In therapy for women with ADHD, as well as coaching, it is important to acknowledge, understand, and validate the frustrations and strengths that result from the condition.

ADHD manifests itself very differently in adult women than in boys, but most ADHD diagnoses are given to younger, hyperactive boys. ADHD most likely occurs as frequently in women as men, but because women tend to be more distracted and less hyperactive, they are less likely to get diagnosed as children.

Women also have cultural expectations to be the “homemakers” in their families. However, tasks associated with this role, like cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, paying bills on time and setting up appointments, are so difficult for ADHD brains.

By some expert’s estimates, about 4% of the population has ADHD. That means everyone knows a woman with ADHD, whether or not she knows she has the disorder.
